OUR NEWS AND ACTIVITIES!!

Residential Treatment

Fairfield Academy is a 24 bed residential and learning facility for adolescent and teenage boys with developmental disabilities and/or with dual diagnoses (DD and MH/AOD) who have engaged in inappropriate and/or harmful sexual behavior or any form of hurtful behavior towards others or themselves.  At Fairfield Academy a resident is expected to accept responsibility for his behavior, develop skills to learn how to think, feel and act in ways that reduce the risk of future inappropriate and hurtful behavior.  By changing beliefs and attitudes, a resident will learn to live as a pro-social member of his community.

Supervision for community safety is provided 24/7 through our residential care specialists with an understanding of relevant treatment issues. Training in independent living/daily living skills, recreational and leisure skills, social skills, and related decision making skills are provided to residents during evening and weekend programming. Fairfield Academy’s residential care specialists conduct groups on a variety of topics from basic hygiene to appropriate behavior in the community. They also conduct groups and work one on one with the residents on topics and skills as prescribed by the Individual Service Plan. All of our direct care staff at Fairfield Academy is trained in "T"herapeutic "A"ssault "P"revention "S"ystem (TAPS) and/or Crisis Prevention Institute. We maintain a resident to staff ratio of approximately 5:1 (depending on the acuity of the unit).

The residential care specialists at Fairfield Academy are a group of dedicated and creative individuals who are an important part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. The Residential Care Specialist’s are continually coming up with fun and educational tools to make the most of the residents stay.

Education

Fairfield Academy operates a non-public Charter school.  A resident'€™s educational plan is highly individualized to meet his specific needs and academic abilities in accordance with that student'€™s IEP and MFE.  The program incorporates academics with vocational readiness training and social skills development to prepare the youth for his transition into adulthood.  Fairfield Academy’s teacher is an important member of the multi-discipline treatment team.

Fairfield Academy also offers on-site tutoring and G.E.D. preparation.

Medication Management

Residents at Fairfield Academy receive medication services from a psychiatrist to evaluate for and create a course for medication when needed. A registered nurse routinely monitors and manages medication administration and diligently evaluates residents for side effects.

Individual, Group & Family Counseling

A Licensed Independent Social Worker and PhD psychology interns provide group and individual counseling to help residents understand the dynamics of their offending behaviors including the internal and external risks, cognitive distortions, and the cyclical nature of their interactions with others. Residents and therapists work on developing and demonstrating empathy for others and making adaptive plans of action for coping with internal and external risk factors.

Individual counseling treatment techniques and/or modalities are dependent upon many variables and are highly individualized. Each resident is evaluated and an Individual Service Plan is created to meet his specific needs.

Group counseling is also dependent on the issues the boys are challenged with facing such as, Sexually Aggressive Adolescent Group and Anger/Emotional Regulation Group.

Group and individual counseling also address mental health/AOD issues which directly or indirectly contribute to the development of offending, harmful and aggressive behaviors.
